Pillsbury has extended its line of gluten-free baking products with the addition of five new mixes: Chocolate Fudge Brownie, Chocolate Chip Cookie, Sugar Cookie, Devil's Food Cake and Classic Yellow Cake.
For the first time, famed cookie baker Archway will have gluten-free cookies. Beginning next month consumers nationwide will be able to purchase Sugar Cookie and Chocolate Chip Cookie Chips. Read more about these new cookies at my Gluten-Free Living blog post.
Kashi has new gluten-free products of its own. GOLEAN Clusters Vanilla Pepita Cereal features a blend of popped sorghum, rolled red beans, pea crisps, pepitas and vanilla, Its GOLEAN Plant Powered Bars come in four flavors: Salted Dark Chocolate & Nuts, Honey Pecan Baklava, Dark Chocolate Cashew Chia and Peanut Hemp Crunch. Each bar is made with a blend of grains, nuts, seeds and pea crisps topped with a nut butter or sunflower seed butter layer.
The new Gramwich snack bar from Van's Foods pairs gluten-free graham-style crackers with a layer of cocoa-flavored cashew butter in between. Van's recently introduced a Banana Bread snack bar as well.
In a marriage of two Philly favorites, Herr's and Chickie's & Pete's have teamed up for Chickie's & Pete's Crabfries seasoned potato chips, The chips are flavored with the Crabfries signature seasoning and accompanying white cheese sauce.
The Living Room Café in Philadelphia's Queen Village neighborhood (701 S. 5th St., 267-930-8388) has gluten-free options daily for breakfast and lunch, including bagels, sandwich bread, salads and soups. The owners plan on offering cheesecake, banana bread and assorted pastries such as whoopie pies and marshmallow treats. The kitchen maintains separate utensils and cutting boards for gluten-free items.
The Australian-influenced Bluestone Lane café, recently opened at the Radisson Blu Warwick Hotel in the Rittenhouse Square section of Philadelphia (1701 Locust St., 267-239-0144), offers gluten-free banana bread and sandwich bread. The gluten-free baked goods are made by New York City's 100%-gluten-free Sans Bakery.
All-gluten-free bakery and café Sweet Christine's reopened last week in Kennett Square (503 Orchard Ave., 610-444-5542).
Contemporary American Gypsy Saloon (128 Ford St., 610-828-8494) and Italian restaurant Stella Blu (101 Ford St., 610-825-7060), sister restaurants in Conshohocken, note gluten-free fare on their dinner menus.
Zoe's Kitchen has just opened its newest area fast-casual Mediterranean shop in Glen Mills (1751 Wilmington Pike, 484-800-8914). The gluten-free menu at all locations includes soup and salads, entrees and sides. This week, Zoe's added to the menu Mediterranean Baked Feta: oven-baked French Feta, cherry tomato bruschetta, olive oil, basil and Calabrian peppers served with fresh cucumbers.
In Allentown, Bamboo Asian Cuisine and Sushi Bar (345 S. Cedar Crest Blvd., 610-770-8899) notes gluten-free items like soups, salads, noodle dishes and entrees on its dinner menu.
Le Castagne on Rittenhouse Square, which served gluten-free pasta, has closed.
