RXBAR is entering the hot cereal category with the launch of new RX A.M. Oats. RX A.M. Oats are made with the same core ingredients found in RXBAR and RX Nut Butter products - egg whites, fruits and nuts - with the addition of gluten-free oats. RX A.M. Oats are available in three flavors: Maple, Apple Cinnamon and Chocolate. Consumers can prepare the single-serve cups in one of three ways: with hot water, in the microwave or as overnight oats.
Simple Mills' certified gluten-free Soft Baked Almond Flour Bars will be available this fall in Dark Chocolate Almond, Chunky Peanut Butter, Nutty Banana Bread and Spiced Carrot Cake varieties. The bars have a soft-baked texture with chunks of almonds, coconuts, flax seeds, chia seeds, carrots, bananas and raisins. The line will be sold at Whole Foods, Sprouts, Amazon and other grocers.
Veggies Made Great by Garden Lites has added two Veggie Cakes varieties and three new Frittatas. The Superfood Veggie Cake now comes in Butternut Squash and Broccoli Cheddar, and the Frittatas in Spinach Egg White, Veggie Bacon & Potato, and Mushroom & 3 Cheese Egg White.
Brewery Ommegang announced the introduction of Project Cider, a new initiative intended to explore the intersection of European and American cider traditions. The line debuts with two varieties: Dry and Rosé. The ciders will be offered year-round on draft and in 4-packs of 12 oz. cans.
The tri-state area has seen a number of new restaurants open recently with the ability to accommodate special dietary requests. Earlier this month, HipCityVeg opened in Radnor (232 N. Radnor Chester Rd., 610-601-8484). Gluten-free options are marked on the menu.
North Wales is the site of the newest Firebirds Wood Fired Grill (1200 Bethlehem Pike, 215-600-0099). The restaurant menus note gluten-free choices.
Mission BBQ opened a second southern New Jersey location, this one in Marlton (545 Rt. 73 N., 856-810-8111). The chain has a separate gluten-free menu.
Shake Shack is opening its second location in South Jersey tomorrow in Cherry Hill (795 Haddonfield Rd., 856-382-9870), with an outpost in Lawrenceville, Mercer County (3303 Rt. 1 S.) debuting soon. The chain carries gluten-free burger buns.
New Italian restaurant Mare Monte in Haddonfield (1 Kings Hwy. E., 856-528-2712) prepares gluten-free pasta in a clean pot and has other choices, as noted on the menu.
Eggspectation recently opened in Newark, Delaware (507 Stanton-Christiana Rd., 302-842-2515), serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. The restaurant has gluten-free flatbread dough, pasta and burger buns. The kitchen has a dedicated fryer and staff uses separate bakeware and utensils for gluten-free orders.
Philadelphia finally has its own City Winery, which opened yesterday in Chinatown (990 Filbert St., 267-479-7373). The music venue, winery and restaurant lists gluten-free options on its menus.
The new Queen & Rook Game Cafe in Queen Village (607 S. 2nd St., 215-995-0043) has a number of true gluten-free options, but avoid the fried items and milkshakes due to shared equipment.
Bryn & Dane's has finally opened in Philadelphia's Market East area (834 Market St., 215-309-2611). Options include wraps, baked chicken tenders, salads and smoothies.
After extensive renovations to repair fire damage, Blueplate in Mullica Hill (47 S. Main St., 856-478-2112) has reopened and is serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. Gluten-free options are noted on the menus; the chef/owner has a child with Celiac Disease.
In Somers Point, Grilled Cheese & Crab Cake has gluten-free grilled cheese sandwiches (prepared on a separate grill, mac and cheese and crabcakes.
The Crab House at Two Mile Landing in Wildwood Crest (1 Fish Dock Rd., 609-522-1341) has all-you-can-eat steamed crabs and corn prepared in a separate kitchen, along with gluten-free burger buns.
Before iPads, there was another way to watch movies in your car. Vineland's Delsea Drive-In Theatre (2203 S. Delsea Dr., 856-696-0011), the only drive-in movie theater in New Jersey, has an entire gluten-free menu.
With the exception of farro, all other salad ingredients at Little Radish at the Ferry Market in New Hope (32 S. Main St., 215-688-1468) are gluten free, including the orzo and croutons.
Recent closings of gluten-free-friendly restaurants including Wahlburgers in Northern Liberties (the location at Ocean in Atlantic City is still operating), Acacia in Bella Vista, Fine Palate in Rittenhouse Square and Muse Paintbar in King of Prussia.

Tickets are now on sale for this fall's Central Pennsylvania Gluten-Free Expo, which is being held for the first time in Camp Hill (outside Harrisburg). The event is scheduled for Saturday, November 9 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online, by calling 717-248-6741 or at local Wegmans markets (general admission only). The Philadelphia edition is set for Saturday, May 16, 2020.
