This is a great blog and I thank you for all the helpful info. I just met a nice girl who has Celiac disease. This has been the most help so far. As for the ballpark, Section 128 has the GF dogs. I waited seriously 15-20 minutes for them but she was happy. Order them ahead of time and pick em' up later. Redbridge in Section 202 is correct too. Thx for your help!
When my husband was diagnosed many years ago, we thought the joy of eating out was gone forever. How things have changed! And of all the informative sites and blogs...yours has definitely been the most helpful. I wish every newly-diagnosed person could be given a link to your blog! THANK YOU!
Chinatown Cafe in Langhorne (Route 213) has rice noodles so I can still have lo mein. He has also bought wheat free soy sauce just for me! They are very accomodating. Ask for Carey, he's the owner. Janet
Great list for PA Celiacs. And great that you are participating in The NFCA's GREAT Program. Both seem to have the same goal...making it safer and more enjoyable to eat outside of your own kitchen. Thanks,
Cool Scoops in North Wildwood has gluten free vanilla and chocolate ice crean and chocolate fudge sauce. Maui's dog house in North Wildwood has gluten free french fries (cooked in a separate fryer), hamburgers and hot dogs. Buns do not touch the grill.
I am the chef and owner of Bistrot La Minette at 623 south 6th street. I would like everyone with a gluten allergy to know that I have an extremely gluten friendly menu, and I am always willing to cook for anyone who has dietary restrictions. Come and visit us. It would take several visits to eat your way through all the options we have!
Piazza Sorrento in Hershey, PA is an Italian Cuisine that has a gluten free menu including GF Pizza. It's a bit furter northwest, but good to know for those vacationing in PA.
This is a much needed site for Pa. and surrounding areas! Since starting my bakery I am shocked by the number of Celiacs who have other food allergies as well!
Thank you for this list! I'll have to check these out!
BTW, I've been to Bistrot La Minette and they have been incredibly helpful in the GF department. Plus the food is to die for and the decor is wonderful -- don't miss their little backyard dining area while the weather is so nice!
Jules Thin Crust has opened recently in Jenkintown in Noble Plaza (off The Fairway) and it ROCKS! We had been waiting for a location closer to us to open & for those of you that long for a "real" pizza again, all I can say is awesome! We called ahead & it was brought hot to our table within a minute of walking in! We ordered the GlutenFree pie & one plain (reg) pizza as well. All of their ingredients are organic. The pies tasted great. I sampled both! Our 3 1/2 yr old son has Celiac disease & he loved it. & the SERVICE was INCREDIBLE!
My daughter and I searched for a GF restaurant near Bryn Mawr, and found that Margaret Kuo's was listed in Wayne. We were delighted, since their Media restaurant had been so good. Boy, were we disappointed. When we asked the waiter for a GF list, he kept saying how the 'soy sauce was low-sodium.' Seriously, she finally ordered brown rice ad steamed bok choi b/c we were getting nowhere. All three meals- one GF and two non-GF- were awful, and cost us almost $100. We will never eat there again.
Mugshots, a coffee shop and cafe, now sells gluten-free vegan cookies made by a company called Liz Lovely. They also offered a lot of vegan friendly items like smoothies. They're located in the Fairmount section of Philly.
Hi, I read your blog daily and you provide great information and updates. Your list of all the GF restaurants in Philly is very helpful.
Last Friday I decided to try a new restaurant and went to Sazon. I just wanted to tell you what a wonderful experience it was. The owner was extremely understanding and explained all the gluten free options to me. He also assured me that my food would be cooked in a separate area and that his wife who is the cook is extremely careful. The food was absolutely delicious and I cant wait to go back. They even gave me a piece of gluten free chocolate cake to try.
This was by far one of the best GF dining experiences I have ever had. The woman who makes the cake is a celiac herself. It is an awesome restaurant just wanted to pass it along.
hello, I'm the manager at Mom's Bake at Home Pizza in Devon, i would like everyone to know we have a great gluten free pizza and pasta selection that gets positive reviews from all the customers. The pizza combinations are endless, only 2 toppings out of 40+ are not gluten free. Our staff is happy to answer any questions and help out any customer in need of assistance that has a gluten free diet. The spinach ravioli and stuffed shells are very popular in the pasta category and many customers are blown away from all the combination we can offer them. Stop by and check us out, give us a call or even place an order online. Our menu is linked on Glutenfreephilly in the Pizza category under Gluten Free Restaurants,Thanks !
I just wanted you to know that there's a new restaurant called Sweetie's Pie Diner which opened up at 19th and Spring Garden. They serve local and organic food, but also have GF and Soy free options. The food is truly amazing. I will say beware of the peanut butter cookies. Although they say GF, they use vanilla that is NOT GF.
I ate at Noble last night. It's a new restaurant on 20th and Sansom in Philadelphia. I have a gluten and dairy allergy and they were awesome even with all my restrictions. Apparently the chef there also has a gluten allergy. My server told me I could pick whichever protein I wanted that they would make it gluten and dairy free for me. The food was delicious. I am definitely going back.
Bertucci's have a gluten-free menu posted on their website, no pizza though! There are several locations in pa, nj, and throughout the tri-state area. Thought you might want to add it to the list of eateries. Thanks! Jen
I ate at Cravings Cafe in Lansdale this weekend. No gluten free menu but the chef was knowledgable about the subject and prepared a special sauce for one of the meals so as to make it gluten free. Highly recommended. For whatever reason they don't get much business so when everything else has a long wait you can usually get a table and get excellent service.
Hi. I love your blog, and read religiously. (I also won the Shabtai Gourmet Giveaway -- Yay! Thanks again!)
I can't remember if you've ever done a Chifa write-up. I ate there with a friend who is also GF on New Year's Eve, and I can't say enough things about how much I loved it.
They offer yucca rolls with Sriracha sauce and they are so much like real rolls! Plus, even though it was a prix fixe menu, they were able to provide every dish GF for us. They use GF soy sauce as a matter of course. Basically, I think they are amazing and would highly recommend your giving them some love on the blog!
(The one downside is that it's pricey... but they are one of the featured restaurants for Restaurant Week, so that might be a great time for any of your readers to try it without paying too much.)
Curious... I called 5 Guys Burgers and they said that they do grill the hot dog & hamburger buns on the same grill that they cook the burgers & dogs. I figured this was "cross-contamination" and wouldn't take my 6 yr old daughter who has celiac there. Does anyone else think this is an issue or am I going overboard?
Maybe it was just an off night, but our gluten-free child left Bridget Foy's in tears before ordering. Our server's lack of knowledge (our lack of confidence) and the absence of child-friendly GF options was a real disappointment.
I don't know if you do anything to get more official confirmation about GF status, but Jimmy's BBQ on Lancaster Avenue (shopping center, north side of street) in Frazer has been great. Everything but the mac-n-cheese (which obviously we don't order) is fine, GF-wise, and DELICIOUS! Immaculately clean and prompt, professional, polite & personable service.
I wanted to add that The Washington House on N. Main St. in Sellersville, PA is very accomodating to anyone on a GF diet! Their menu is seasonal, but many things are gltuen free or can be made gluten free! I have eaten there many times both pre and post gluten free and have always had an excellent meal!!!
Mannino's Pizza, Gluten pizza here is so good. Truely great pizza places are rare, and this being gluten free is like finding a white whale relaxing in the delaware.
I just wanted to say that I went to Maui's Hot Dog in Wildwood last summer and they were not accommodating. They acted rude to me and annoyingly opened the wrapping to prove the burger was bunless. They really are not at all Gluten-free friendly or understanding of Celiac Disease (and just plain not friendly at all).

ReplyDeletePercy Street BBQ (9th & South Street- Phila) serves many GF offerings on their menu! Very good BBQ!
ReplyDeleteWe have no issues with Five Guys - the one we frequent prepares the buns in a separate section and we ask them to use new gloves.
ReplyDeleteCan anyone help?
ReplyDeleteMy wife and I are coming from Australia and would appreciate any advise on gluten free products eyc in West Chester Pa.
Many thanks
Alan
Alan - try Brothers Pizza & Pasta (GF pizza) and Iron Hill Brewery (GF menu), both in West Chester. Kimberton Whole Foods is in nearly Downingtown.
