Pie Five Pizza Co., another entrant in the quick-serve pizza category, has its first regional location in Dover, Delaware (1211 N. DuPont Hwy., 302-734-7435). The shop offers pizzas on Smart Flour gluten-free crusts; the only non-gluten-free toppings are meatballs and Alfredo sauce. Request that the staff change gloves and prepare orders using separate ingredients, dedicated bakeware and utensils, though the store incorporates many of these precautions in its standard protocol. Pie Five will be expanding in the Philadelphia region, with outposts in Cherry Hill, New Jersey and Montgomery County, Pennsylvania in the planning stages. (Thanks Amy R.)
Center City Philadelphia's Giorgio on Pine has reconceptualized its more casual sibling, Giorgio Pizza on Pine, into Boccocini (1334 Pine St., 215-545-2482). Gluten-free pizza and pasta is available there, in addition to appetizers and entrees. Eater Philly reported on the change.
New York's The Halal Guys have brought gluten-free falafel and fries (prepared in dedicated fryers) to the area with two locations to date: Center City's Chinatown (1016-18 Race St., 215-925-2225) and King of Prussia (150 W .DeKalb Pike, 484-679-1444). The sauces are gluten free as well.
Also in King of Prussia, Outback Steakhouse is scheduled to open next Tuesday (160 N. Gulph Rd.) and Yard House's debut is set for March 27 (160 N. Gulph Rd., 610-265-3584). Both have gluten-free menus, as does Mission BBQ, which just opened in town (120 Village Dr., 484-637-2595).
Nordstrom Grill at the Christiana Mall in Newark (100 Stanton Christiana Rd., 302-613-6000 x1610) notes gluten-free options on its menu.
Reader Mike C. let me know that Relish in West Reading (715 Penn Ave., 484-599-0636) can accommodate gluten-free guests. Relish offers hot dogs and sausages on gluten-free buns, as well as chili, soup, salad and quiche options.
Guru's Indian Cuisine in Newtown (12 Cambridge Lane, 215-968-5700) notes gluten-free options on its menu and, as a bonus, offers gluten-free naan bread. (Thanks Michele H.)
The Rachel Way gluten- and dairy-free food pantry at the Plymouth Meeting Mall (500 W. Germantown Ave., 484-804-5293) is hosting a kids' Valentine event tomorrow at 1 p.m. Guests will make and decorate truffles and conversation hearts. Email Heather to reserve a spot, as space is limited. The pantry will also host a kids' activity the first Monday of every month, beginning in March with a cooking class.
